Crowned the "King of Value" by its maker, Recording King, the new RD-316 is an Adirondack top, all-solid, nitrocellulose finished acoustic guitar priced at $689 MAP. The soundboard of the RD-316 is made from solid AAA Adirondack Spruce, a prized choice for guitar tops since the 1920s that is generally considered to be more resonant that Sitka Spruce. This type of wood also has a unique wide-grain pattern that makes Adirondack guitars aesthetically pleasing to the eye. According to Recording King, for many years, Adirondack Spruce was rare or unavailable and even now, guitars with Adirondack Spruce tops are amongst the most sought-after guitar models on the market. Whereas the top sports Adirondack Spruce, the RD-316's back and sides are made from solid African Mahogany. The guitar has a nut width of 1-11/16" and the one-piece Mahogany neck is fitted to the body with a hand-cut dovetail joint. Both the fretboard and the bridge are made of ebony. For resonance and historical accuracy, the RD-316 guitar is finished with a thin coat of nitrocellulose lacquer. Recording King's classic tricone resonator has three 6 Continental cones that transfer incredibly loud tones through the body of the guitar. The solid AAA Engelmann spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides have been carefully selected and hand-assembled. With a 1-3/4” nut width, Grover tuners, ebony fretboard and ebony pyramid bridge, these O and OO guitars are as well-appointed and unique as they are beautiful. Each guitar is sprayed with a thin coat of nitrocellulose lacquer and then hand-buffed for a finish that is extremely resonant and historically accurate. More about the collaboration: Eric Schoenberg’s influence on guitar marries traditional fingerstyle playing to classic ragtime and walking basslines. His “Fingerpicking Beatles” book is considered an essential text for modern fingerstyle players. Mr. Schoenberg prefers the 12-fret cutaway because he believes the 12-fret neck joint gives the guitars a gutsier voice, yet the cutaway is not so deep that it takes away from the sound.
